Family mini sessions are very popular especially during the fall. Many families use a family mini session for several reasons, such as photographs for holiday cards, gifts for family members, and an update to the family gallery wall.
In order to make the most of your family mini session, let’s take a look at commonly asked questions before you decide to schedule your family mini session.
1. Are mini sessions a good alternative to a newborn session?
No! Having a new addition to your family is WAY to important to try and capture everything a newborn deserves in just 20 minutes. If you are interested in a newborn session but are unsure about how a newborn session flows and the cost, please let me know. I’d be happy to share more with you and I do offer payment plans.
2. Do you offer hair, makeup, and wardrobe for mini sessions?
Unfortunately I do not offer styling suggestions or beauty services for mini sessions. Due to the quick nature of mini sessions, it is not feasible. However, throughout the late summer and early fall I offer suggestions and general wardrobe tips through my newsletter and social feeds.
3. How many images will I receive in my gallery?
With a mini session, you will receive 12 or more edited images that will be delivered in an electronic gallery. You will be able to download all edited images. Family mini sessions will be delivered within 3 weeks of your session date.
4. How long does a mini session last?
A mini session lasts 20 minutes. Yes, it is very quick and I try to move your family through several ‘poses.’ I usually start with the “everyone look this way” and will then encourage your family to engage with each other to gain more candid, lifestyle images. If there is time I will try for sibling images and possibly one individual of each child. It depends on how comfortable your family is and the age of your children as to the variety of images you receive.
5. What is your cancellation policy?
For mini sessions, if you have to cancel for reasons other than illness or weather, I do not offer a refund. Before you submit your payment, please check and re-check your calendar to make sure the date you chose works well for your family.
6. What is your policy for rain?
If your session is scheduled for outdoors or in your home and the weather is forecasted to be wet, we will reschedule your session.
7. Can extended family members join our mini session?
No, this will need to be a separate booking for an extended family session. Family mini sessions are only for your immediate family.
8. How early should I arrive for my family mini session?
Usually when I schedule family mini sessions, there are multiple appointments scheduled for that day. Please arrive 5-10 minutes early so we can start right at your family’s scheduled time. Mostly likely I will have clients before and after your session.
9. What should my family wear?
As I stated previously, I do not offer styling services for mini sessions, however, I will share lots of tips and ideas throughout the time leading up to mini sessions on my social feed and newsletter. A few things to remember with mini sessions, we will be moving around A LOT during your session. I suggest moms wear clothes that make you feel great and allow you freedom of movement. A mix of patterns, textures, and a palette of 3-4 colors are a great starting point. Embrace layers and accessories and avoid large logos. Also, dress for the weather, not what you want the weather to be!
10. Can I bring our dog?
Yes, if your family pet is well behaved in public spaces, I have no problem including pets in family sessions.
I hope this information has helped you determine if a family mini session is the right photography ession for you and your family. Interested in a fall family mini session? Reach out to me here and I will add you to my waitlist!
