In all my Fort Worth family photography sessions, the most important component of preparing for your session is finding the best light!
Planning for Light
Before every in home photography session, whether it’s newborn, milestone, or family, I have my client send me pictures of some of their rooms. In the phone pics, I am looking for areas where I can see the sun reflect off of the floor or brighten up a corner of a room. This can be from a kitchen window, a backyard door, front door, bay window, or other space that allows for ample sunlight. Along with your home pictures, I consult the website Wunderground Weather to have an idea of the amount of cloud cover and where the sun will be in the sky in relation to your home.
In my most recent Fort Worth family photography session, I had the pleasure of working with a wonderful young family in their home. Prior to their photo session, I discussed with my client about looking for areas of their home that receive the best natural light. She shared with me through FaceTime three rooms that she thought would work best.
Once I saw her glass door that leads to their backyard, I knew we had found the spot. This door provided the largest about of sunlight at the time of day her session. Additionally, the room provided enough space that allowed her family to move and pose in the room. We spent the majority of their family session hugging that beautiful sunlight streaming through their back door.
The Magic of Natural Light
I love playing with natural light in your homes. By choosing to capture family’s in and near the light, I believe it adds a beautiful and dynamic touch to your family photographs. Also, it can highlight those special connections, such as playing a hand on a face, connecting hands, or snuggling up to your children. The sunlight just magnifies those connections.
Many people have a misconception that their home is not worthy of beautiful light filled home images. I must repeat again, it is not about the wardrobe or perfectly curated rooms, give us one great window and we will create magic!
