First, let’s set the stage for your in-home newborn session. My clients are well aware of what areas in your home we will most likely use for your in-home photo session. During a pre-session phone call, we make a plan as to what rooms to use based on the amount of natural light. Before your session, take a few minutes and do a ‘sweep’ of the area. Remove excess clutter and things that are not exactly picture perfect. Then, set the stage! You can incorporate fresh flowers, open your window treatments, and plan for music to play during your session. By doing theses simple tasks ahead of time, you have created a comfortable and relaxed environment. Thus, allowing you to simply focus on your family and minimize any distractions. Let Things Flow

Next, one of the things I encourage families to do during their in-home photo session is to allow moments to unfold naturally. I will create the pose, but then the magic happens when you begin to engage and interact with your family. This looks like, smelling your child’s head, talking or singing a song with your toddler. Bouncing your toddler on your knee, telling stories to your older children about what type of baby they were. Also, talking with your spouse, holding hands, and running fingers through your child’s hair. You are encouraged to move during your session and look at your family. It really is all about play and enjoying each other. Yes, things might get crazy, just smile and we will re-group. That is a part of the process with young children.

It’s the Little Things

A big component of a newborn session is capturing all of your little ones tiny features. Every newborn is unique and has the most exquisite details. Their tiny toes and fingers, their hair swirl, and other precious features all need to be captured and celebrated through photographs.
