If you’re planning a Fort Worth newborn session, you’ve probably already spent months getting the nursery just right — the perfect wallpaper, a rug with just enough pattern, that vintage dresser you refinished yourself. Now you’re thinking about how to document this next chapter with the same intention. Here are 11 essential questions to know before you book.

When Should I Book My Fort Worth Newborn Session?

The sweet spot for a newborn session is within the first 2-6 weeks after birth, while your baby is still sleepy, curled up, and still has all of those precious details, like squishy cheeks and back rolls. But the booking itself should happen much earlier than that — I recommend reaching out during your second trimester to reserve your date. I only take a limited number of newborn sessions each month, and Fort Worth families tend to book early once they know their due date.
If your baby has already arrived and you’re just now finding me, don’t panic — I can often accommodate last-minute sessions too.
Where Will We Shoot — My Home or a Studio?

Most of my newborn sessions happen right in your home, and honestly, that’s my favorite way to shoot. Your nursery, your favorite reading chair, the light coming through your kitchen window in the morning — that’s not a backdrop, that’s your story. If you’ve put care into decorating your space, an in-home session lets all of that be part of the images, not just the baby.
If you’d prefer a clean, studio-style look instead, I also shoot at The Lumen Room here in Fort Worth, known for bright, airy natural light — a great option if the weather isn’t cooperating or you just want a different feel.
Season plays a role in this decision too. Texas summers can bring harsh midday light and triple-digit heat, which makes an in-home session with soft, filtered window light much more comfortable for both you and your newborn. In the cooler months, we have a little more flexibility, and some families choose to add an outdoor component later for a sibling or family mini once baby is a little older. Whatever we choose, the goal stays the same: soft, flattering natural light and a space where you can relax instead of worrying about a location.
How Do You Work With My Home’s Style and Colors?

This is one of my favorite parts of a session. I’m not a photographer who brings in the same white wrap and beige blanket for every client — I want your photos to actually look and feel like you. Before your session, we’ll talk through your nursery colors, the patterns and textures you already love, and how your home’s natural light moves throughout the day. If you’re someone who chose that citrine throw pillow on purpose, I want that same intention showing up in your gallery.
We’ll do a wardrobe and styling consultation ahead of time so your outfit choices, swaddles, and any sentimental props complement your space instead of fighting with it — rich, warm tones and layered textures photograph beautifully in natural light, and I’ll help you pull it all together.
What If I Don’t Know My Style Yet?
Totally normal, especially with a first baby. Not every mom has her nursery Pinterest board finished before her due date, and that’s okay — the styling consultation isn’t a test, it’s a conversation. I’ll ask about colors you’re drawn to, whether you gravitate toward bold pattern or something more muted, and what’s already in your home, then bring suggestions based on that. Some moms know exactly what they want down to the exact shade of terracotta; others just know they want it to feel warm and lived-in. Either way, we’ll land on something that feels like you by the time your session rolls around.
Is My Newborn Safe During Posing?

Always. Your baby’s safety and comfort come first, every time, no exceptions. I never pose your baby in props. Your baby is never left unsupported. If your baby isn’t settling into a certain situation that day, we simply move on to something they’re comfortable with. A relaxed baby always makes a better photo anyway. You can expect to be holding your baby for the majority of your session.
I’ve worked with countless newborns, and I pay close attention to their cues throughout the session — temperature, hunger, startle reflex, all of it. If a pose isn’t working for your baby, we don’t force it. Some of my favorite images actually come from the simplest, safest poses: baby resting on a parent’s chest, tiny hands wrapped around a finger, a close-up of those first-week features. You never have to worry that a photo is more important to me than your baby’s comfort.
What Should We Wear?
Whatever makes you feel like yourselves. I’ll send a style guide ahead of your session with color palette suggestions and outfit ideas, but in general: soft, coordinating tones work beautifully together without looking too matchy, and a little texture — waffle knit, linen, a delicate lace swaddle — adds so much depth to the images. If you love pattern, a subtle one on you or a sibling can add a lot of personality without overwhelming the photo.
How Long Does a Session Take?
Plan for 60 to 75 minutes. Newborn sessions move slowly and gently by design — there’s time built in for feeding, soothing, and diaper changes without anyone feeling rushed. We’ll capture you holding your baby, close-up details of those tiny newborn features, and if you have them, moments with siblings and even the family dog.
What If My Baby Cries or Needs to Eat?
That’s simply part of a newborn session — not a disruption to it. We build feeding and soothing breaks into the timeline, and I’m happy to pause whenever your baby needs it. Some of the sweetest images actually come from those in-between moments: you calming your baby back to sleep, your baby mid-yawn, a hand wrapped around your finger.
When Will I See My Photos?
Your full gallery is delivered within three weeks of your session, and every gallery comes with full rights to download and print — no watermarks, no hidden upsells for basic digital access.
What If My Baby Comes Early or Late?
Life doesn’t run on a due date, and I plan for that. If your baby arrives earlier or later than expected, we simply adjust your session date to land within that ideal newborn window — you won’t lose your spot.
Can I See More Examples of Your Work?

Absolutely — the best way to get a feel for my style, the way I use natural light, and how I incorporate a family’s home into their gallery is to browse a full newborn photo gallery. It’s a great next step if you’re still deciding whether my approach is the right fit for your family.
Every family’s home and style is different, and that’s exactly what I want your gallery to reflect — not a generic newborn setup, but your nursery, your colors, your light. If you’re ready to book your Fort Worth newborn session and document this stage the way you’ve thought through every other detail of your home, I’d love to hear from you.
