A mini session is a shorter, more affordable version of a full family photography session — usually 15 to 25 minutes, at one location, with a smaller gallery of edited images. It’s designed for exactly this moment: quick, seasonal, and focused on getting you a handful of genuine, usable images without a two-hour production.

But “mini” doesn’t mean rushed or generic. My fall minis still follow a child-led, connection-based approach — no forced smiles, no “look at the camera and say cheese.” Instead, I give your family a little direction (a hand to hold, a hill to run down, a sibling to chase) and let real movement and real laughter happen in front of the lens. That’s where the best images come from — not the posed ones, but the ones right after, when everyone forgets the camera is there.

Clothing sets the tone for the whole gallery, so here’s what I recommend for a relaxed, cohesive, movement-friendly look:

・Layer with texture, not just color. Think cardigans, knit sweaters, light flannel, and soft denim. Texture photographs beautifully in fall light and adds depth even in a simple color palette.

・Choose a palette, not matching outfits. Pick 3–4 coordinating colors (rust, cream, olive, denim, warm brown) and let each family member wear a different combination. Head-to-toe matching tends to look stiff in candid, movement-based photos.

・Prioritize comfort and movement. Since we’ll be walking, sitting in grass, and letting kids run, avoid anything too structured, itchy, or restrictive — especially for little ones. A comfortable kid is a cooperative kid.

・Skip busy patterns and logos. Small prints, plaids in your favorite colors, and solid neutrals photograph better than bold graphics or large patterns. Also, don’t worry about only using neutrals. If you love color, please wear it! Pops of color also look great in photographs. These photos are for you, dress in a way that feels beautiful to you and authentic to your family.
